Daniel Turner is an award winning Canadian guitarist, arranger and educator. He has a Master’s Degree in Guitar Performance from the University of Toronto, a Bachelors of Musical Arts in Guitar Performance from the University of Windsor, and is now working towards his Doctorate in Musical Arts in Guitar Performance at University of Toronto with the renowned Canadian guitarist Jeffrey MacFadden. His dissertation tackles the difficult issue of guitar fingerings and will create a guide modelled after guides to fingering for the violin and piano.
Daniel has also participated in masterclasses and workshops with many of the greatest guitarists from around the world including Rene Izquerdo, Jorje Cabellero, Dale Kavanaugh and Anton Baranov.
As a soloist, Daniel has performed for the Guitar Society of Toronto, performed with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, and placed in International Guitar Competitions. In addition to his work as a soloist,
Daniel is deeply committed to the importance of chamber music for the development of classical guitarists, and perrforms in various duos, for which he often creates original arrangements.
His voice and guitar duo Alma with opera singer Amelia Daigle were recently artists in residence in Burgundy France and gave concerts in France, Spain, and Germany which consisted of Daniel's arrangements of Spanish art songs. They have also given concerts for the Western University and the University of Windsor. Daniel also arranged a program of J.S Bach's keyboard music for guitar and flute, which he has performed many times with historical flutist Jin Cho, and has a duo with pianist Logan Adlum which mainly performs guitar concertos. Recently he has also began pursuing flamenco improvisation in a guitar duo with Jared Aitken.
Daniel is also a devoted teacher to many students, many of whom have won awards for their playing such as 1st place in Kiwanis provincial competitions, and gold medals on Conservatory tests. He has also coached many duos and ensembles such as the University of Toronto flute and guitar duos, and the WCCA guitar ensemble.
